blog 10

WOW!! Finally the last blog. After eight long weeks, hw, stress, and essays, i can finally breathe and say i did it. I accomplished alot and i learned alot of new things that are going to help me get thru the rest of my life. English 101 was very hard at first. But after putting alot of effort and mind to all my work, i did it.

Kristen you were a great teacher. At first i thought that you were a mean teacher with all the homework you gave us but now i have come to understand that everything you made us do was for our own good and our future. I am very grateful that you made us work hard and go to the next level. Thank you very much.

Right now i can honestly say that i have gone thru alot in life. im very young but i have had to act as an adult and make alot of grown up decisions. I have been working since i was 16 and once i graduated high school, i took a year off from college but i had bills and other responsabilities to take care of. Ive been working nonstop for 3 years now. I now hold a full time management position in retail.

I decided to come back to school because its the only way that i will get farther and where i want to get in life. I started with wanting to do early child education but now i recently changed it to healtcare interepretor. i have alot of goals in my life for myself. and slowly but surely i will accomplish all of them. I will continue next semester with my carrer and in the summer i will do CNA.

Thank you very much for making us work harder and harder. it will pay off in the long run and thanks for having so much patience with us!

The essay on the ad was also another challenge in my life. I was up most of the night trying to figure out how to put everything together. I was very thankful for the packet that really helped me get thru my paper.
The ad that i choose was on Teen Vogue Magazine. It was a sexy ad advertising a girl, clothing, and a motorcyle. I found it interesting because it had alot of the appeals that the packet had in there. I could talk alot on it because it was a whole ad that had alot going on. At first i couldnt put it together because i was confused but once i sat down and really put some thought to it, my ideas were coming naturally.
But at the end, once i was done with the essay, i said to myslef, wow, another thing that i learned and accomplished in my life.

English was always my easy and favorite subject. It somehow always came naturally to me and always did great on my papers. This was my first semester of college and I took English 101. At first, I was very excited because i thought to myself that it was going to be an easy A.
Once we actually started to do work and get homework and essays, my mind changed. As much as I tried to do my essays in the form they were required, i couldnt. MLA was my biggest hit.  I had never been introduced to it and it made my life a living hell for a while. Works cited also was one of my biggest challenges, even when i got help, i couldnt do it for the next time.
The next challenge that i had was TS/CD. I remember the first time that the article was handed to us, i didnt know what i was doing. i knew i was trying but in my mind i knew it wasnt right.
After eight weeks, of learning and reshaping my whole english thought, i finally feel comfortable with my writtig, and TS/CD has really made my life much easier when it comes to writting my papers.
I feel like i really accomplished all the guidelines that were stated on the syllabus even if i stayed up some nights trying to finsish my homework.

Im 19 years old, I have been working for three years and I have  never had a resume before. I got hired at my company when I was 16 years old. It was more of a "lets see if i get hired' thing and to my luck i got hired right on the spot. Now that I had to do my resume, it was a challenge. Filing out the paper work that was step-by-step was easy. But once i had to actually do it on microsoft word, I was stuck on it for a very long time. I had to get help from my sister and she is 1 year younger than me. After a couple phone calls and some research online to see the proper setting on it, i finally figured it out.
I am very greatful that now I have it done because I know it will do me very well for my future!

Humor gives life a little more style. Without humor life would be plain simple and boring. When I hear something funny, I usually have to laugh out loud and relieve some energy from my body. They say laughter makes you live longer so i atleast try to laugh hard once a day lol.
Humor can be in different ways. whether experiencing something funny while you are there, remembering a past funny experience, hearing a joke or reading something funny.
The cocaine article was something different. I had never read anything like it before. The man was seriously not thinking when he called the police to report his cocaine stolen, he pretty much turned himself in. But it was deffenetly a humor article and I had fun while doing my ts/cd.

I guess I can say that the Compare/Contrast Essay was a bit challenging. But like everything, life is a challenge itself. One of the problems was identifying the three readings that I wanted to use for my essay. The three readings had to have things in common and also differences. One thing that I looked out for through out the readings were experiences that I could relate to in my life.

With this in mind, I chose Cutler's "Whodunit-The Media", Goldwasser's "What's the matter with kids Today" and Penrod's "Anti-Intelectualis".Once I read the stories, I put the book to the side and meditated on what I had just read. Somehow, I could relate with the teenagers in the stories, since I was still a teenager not to long ago.

Once I had all my ideas prepared, the hardest part was getting the essay started. I did not know where to start or how to put the information together so it could flow correctly. But once I started going, I did not get up until my essay was done. Like I mentioned earlier, life is all about challenges, but when we think about it, we can overcome anything.

The synthesis essay has been the hardest one so far. After reading the stories, I had two possible topics to write about. Looking over my notes and key points, I decided on language and literacy. This interested me the most because I could relate to Amy Tan and Mike Rose.

When it was time to start writing, it was difficult to put all my key points into one main idea. So to help myself out, I used TS/CD. This made my life 100 times better because all my ideas were organized. It has really helped me out alot when I do not know where to begin my writing.

At first it was a bit challenging when we were given articles and told to do TS/CD on them. But now I can do it without having to put much thought in them. I will keep doing TS/CD for as long as I have to do essays. It will help me organize my ideas and make my paper flow nicely.

The reflection essay had its challenges and easy parts. One of the challenges I came upon on was MLA format. It was my first time writing in MLA so I had to use OWL as my reference. Even thoughI thought I had it, that’s where I lost most of my points on. But I did like that we were able to choose the reading that we were interested in. We were also given enough time to think about the essay and put allof our thoughts together.
The article I decided to write about was on Obama’s Speech of Victory. I personally did like it because  it was a current article. I had a better understanding due to my knowledge on the subject. One thing I didn’t like about the article was that Obama kept repeating the same words “Yes we can” over and over. To me, I think it kind of overwhelmed the article a little since the idea was already stated since the beginning.
Like I mentioned earlier, the only part where I lost the most points was on MLA format. I guessI could have done more research and looked up other sources to help me out. I could have also asked my friends in college to give me a better understanding of it with examples. But since we are able to re-write it, that’s what I will be doing and submitting my essay one more time for a much better grade.

During the first week of class, we were put on the spot to write about an experience in life dealing with issues of learning how to read and write. Although we had some time to prepare for this before we had to write it in class, it was hard to write a paper in an hour. Having English as my second language has always given me more challenges in writing. I do consider myself a good writer in terms of spelling and punctuation. When it comes to writing papers, it always gives me a hard time to fill in the space. I can write an introduction, but when it comes to writing the body of my paper, I don't know how to write down and express my thoughts.
This essay was not a hard subject to write about because the main focus were ourselves. It just required a lot of thinking and traveling back in time through our memories. I really enjoy writing because writing is everything in life. That's one of the ways that humans communicate. It expresses alot of things. Let's focus on books for a moment; there are books for everything including cooking, for fun, to learn something new, or to give advice on life challenges.
If I had the chance to write this paper over, I would take it without hesitation. I would keep the base of my paper the same, but put more thought and express my feelings deeply to make it more interesting to the audience. Even though I do think english class is a bit hard, I have learned alot these past couple of weeks. I feel more confident in my writing skills and now when I have papers for other classes, I think to myself I CAN DO IT!
Like I mentioned earlier, I really enjoy writing because it expresses our feelings or we put alot of effort in the subject we are writting on. But I do think that it would be more successful if we don't have to write on the spot. Some people like myself, need a couple hours to read the subject, meditate and come up with the information or how to write our paper in an orderly fashion.

I used to think I was good in writing until my first year of college. It was nothing like high school, teachers treated us like adults and they acted like humans themselves. These couple of weeks from English class have changed everything I used to know. There are many different categories we have to analyze when working on a paper. For example the point of the essay, the audience it's targeting and the stance of it. Whether you may just be writing a shopping list, a letter to a friend/family member or writing a 20 page essay for college, they all share the same goal; it is done for a purpose and to get a point across. From grade school to high school, our essays consisted of five paragraphs. Now I know it should be composed of three parts; intro, body, and conclusion in order to have our readers wanting more. These are not difficult aspects to keep in mind when writing our papers, they will only help un-wind and make it flow correctly. Another thing I was never taught was MLA Style. We were able to write what we found in books or research on the web with no worries. Now everything has to be cited, even the smallest ideas we borrow from other authors. I still find this difficult because there are occasions in which articles do not have an author or some have more than one. All this information is very helpful because I know this is only the beginning of a long journey!
